‘It’s all the same’ is a promenade performance with audio. Featuring dancer Aoife McAtamney, voices of Ingrid Craigie and Stella McCusker. Premiered at Dublin Fringe Festival 2023 (at sunrise). Text and Music by Zoe Ní Riordáin. Directed by Gavin Quinn. Produced by Hugh Farrell. Stage Managed by Rachel Bollard. Recorded at Darklands Studio. Music by Zoe Ní Riordáin and Simon Cullen. Funded by The Arts Council, Engine Room at Abbey Theatre. Photography and Filming and Editing by Ros Kavanagh.
It began in the COVID lockdown of 2020. Zoe was commissioned by The Abbey Theatre as part of ‘Dear Ireland’ project. She wrote a monologue including a song that was performed by Seána Kerslake. From there, Zoe developed the text and music with support from the Arts Council and the Abbey Theatre. It became a live performance on the north inner city streets. You hear the voice of a woman who is expressing the loneliness of the streets, and her intention to jump from the Jim Larkin statue. Aoife developed a character based on this voice and she guides the audience on a journey that is both real time and a surreal expression of the voice in your head.
